In Bound Links (IBL)

In Bound Links (IBL's) are simply a link from another website to your website. In recent years the major search engines (SE's) started relying heavily on IBL's. With that in mind, the more IBL's you have the higher your page will rank. If at all possible you want the anchor tag of the IBL to match your key phrase for your page. To a search engine that sees a site linking to your page with a matching anchor tag, that validates your key phrase. The more IBL's you have the better your ranking.

Consider an IBL as a popularity contest, the more votes a web page gets the higher their chances of winning or in this case ranking high for a particular phrase. The web is the world's largest popularity contest. That is why you want as many IBL's as possible and make sure you use anchor tags properly.

An anchor tag is what you visually see to click on. So, if I have a link sample, sample is the anchor tag. Now if I was linking to www.something.com I would want "Something" to be the anchor tag or whatever the page is about, not www.something.com, this is a mistake I see all too common. The reason this is a mistake is because the SE's should have you already ranked #1 for your domain, if not then you need more help then reading this is going to do. Other lousy choices of anchor tags is "click here", "enter", "visit" or any number of other phrases that are not your key phrase.
